A Jewel in a Jewel in an Enigma Inside a Mystery (A Micro-Curatorial Study)

A Jewel in a Jewel in an Enigma Inside a Mystery (A Micro-Curatorial Study)

2015
Selected works from the Illingworth Kerr Gallery collection, essay.

“An inhabited space calls out from the corners, subtly imploring awareness and observation in its travellers. Each art work presented here has been discovered within the Illingworth Kerr Gallery's archive collection; every piece created by an individual whose name is often spoken but scarcely acknowledged. There are locations within this building that are marked by their absence, or perhaps it is by their presence – ghosts of a time that has slowly begun to dissolve. This micro-curatorial study provides a mere glimpse into our institution's forebears. It is dedicated to the detective that lives inside every one of us. Clue hunters, curious investigators and dedicated decoders – endlessly solving riddles in an effort to understand the world, its people, and its undiscovered histories.”
